Mark's Golf Cart Rentals San Pedro Ambergris Caye Belize logo Book now

We keep the fleet deliberately simple. Two cart sizes, both gas, both set up for the same thing: getting a group from one end of Ambergris Caye to the other in shade and comfort.

Choosing between them comes down to how many of you there are and how much you are carrying. Everything else about the two carts is the same, including the servicing they get between rentals and the support behind them while you have one.

Both are gas powered, which on Ambergris Caye is the decision that matters most. The island runs roughly twenty five miles north to south, the interesting parts are spread along all of it, and an electric cart spends a meaningful share of your holiday attached to a charger. A tank of fuel takes two minutes to replace in town and covers a day of driving anywhere you are likely to go.

Neither cart is a new model every season. They are looked after, replaced as they age, and chosen for how they cope with sand, salt and constant short trips rather than for how they photograph. What you get is a cart that starts every morning of your rental.

Choosing

Which Golf Cart Size Do You Need?

Group size decides it in almost every case. This is how the two carts sort out in practice.

A rough guide. If you are between the two, take the larger one, since nobody has ever complained about spare seats.

Set up for here

Built for Sand, Salt and Sun

Ambergris Caye is unusually hard on vehicles. Three things about how these carts are set up matter more here than they would anywhere else.

Extended roofs

Shade over the rear bench matters more than anything else between eleven and three. Every 6 seater carries one.

Gas engines

Full island range on a tank, refuelled in two minutes at a station in town rather than parked at a charger for hours.

Salt resistant care

Washed down and treated between rentals, because the sea air here takes apart anything that is left alone.

What Happens Between Rentals

Every cart comes back to the workshop when a rental ends, and none of them go out again until they have been through the same list. It is the least glamorous part of the business and the one that decides how your week goes.

  • Engine and drivetrain check
  • Brake test and adjustment
  • Tyre pressure and tread
  • Steering and suspension
  • Lights, indicators and horn
  • Seats, roof and grab rails
  • Full wash and salt rinse
  • Fuel to the handover level

Driving One for the First Time

If you have never driven a golf cart, you will be comfortable inside five minutes. There is a forward and reverse switch, an accelerator, a brake, and that is essentially it. Belize drives on the right, the same as the United States.

The two things worth knowing are that carts are slow to stop on sand, and that the top speed is genuinely low, so leave more room than you think and take the sand streets gently. Pedestrians and cyclists have right of way through town, and Front Street is shared space in practice.

Carry your licence. A valid licence from your home country is what is required to drive here. The full list of island rules is worth two minutes before you set off.

Questions About the Fleet

What guests ask about the carts themselves once they have decided on a company.

Gas. On an island this long, range beats quiet. A full tank covers the run north to Secret Beach and back with plenty to spare.

Six adults across three benches, with luggage space behind the rear seat. It is the cart families and wedding groups take almost every time.

Golf carts on Ambergris Caye are not fitted like cars. Ours have cushioned bench seating with grab rails, and everybody needs to be seated while the cart is moving.

Yes. Headlights, tail lights, indicators and horn are checked before every rental, which matters because long stretches of the coast road are unlit.

That is exactly what they are for. The bridge pass is included, the road is fine for a cart, and the round trip is comfortably within one tank.

The 4 seater is normally right, and it is easier to park in town. Take the 6 seater if you are carrying a lot of beach gear or expect friends along.
