For a 6 seater in high season, as early as you have flights. Christmas, Easter and Lobster Fest empty the island fleet weeks ahead. Four seaters are usually available at shorter notice.
These are the questions we actually get asked, grouped by when they usually come up. If yours is not here, the Belize number reaches somebody who can answer it.

Planning the trip
Before You Book
Everything guests want settled while the trip is still being planned, before there is a cart or a date attached to anything.
If you are staying anywhere outside the town centre, yes. San Pedro spreads a long way north and south, and taxi fares over a week add up to more than the rental.
We confirm availability and the total first, and nothing is charged when you send the form. Once you accept, at least The full rental cost is payable on the day of booking, with an open credit card imprint taken when you arrive.
Yes. Residents rent from us regularly while their own cart is in the shop, and monthly arrangements are available.
Getting the cart
Delivery, Collection and Arrival
How the cart actually reaches you on arrival day, and how it gets back to us when you leave the island.
Both airstrips, every water taxi terminal, and the great majority of hotels, resorts and rental houses on the island, as long as they are reachable by road.
Yes, along with collection at the end. The daily rate is the same whether you collect from the office or we drive the cart to you.
Message us with the new time. Delays are completely normal here and we would far rather move the handover than have you arrive to nobody waiting.
A couple of minutes. Licence check, keys, a walk around the cart so we both agree on its condition, and a word about fuel and the bridge.
Wherever you are departing from, or at your hotel. Park it, take your belongings, and go. We collect it afterwards.
On the road
Driving on Ambergris Caye
Licences, fuel, the road north and the handful of local habits that nobody thinks to explain to a visitor.
A valid driving licence from your home country. Carry it while you are driving, because you will be asked for it if you are stopped.
No. Forward, reverse, accelerator, brake. Most people are comfortable within five minutes. The two things to respect are sand under the tyres and how long a cart takes to stop.
Yes, and most guests do. The bridge pass is included, the road is fine for a cart, and the round trip sits comfortably inside one tank of fuel.
There are stations in San Pedro Town. Fill up before a long run north, since options thin out considerably past the bridge.
Yes, with headlights on. Long stretches of the coast road have no street lighting, and cyclists here often have no lights, so take it slowly.
The financial part
Money, Payment and Policies
Currency, cards, tax and the terms that apply if something changes after you have paid.
US dollars. Belize dollars are accepted at the usual two to one rate and both circulate freely on the island.
VISA, MasterCard, Discover and American Express. You can settle a confirmed reservation through the payment page.
Rental prices are subject to 12.5 percent tax, added when you pay. The figure we confirm to you is always the full amount.
Full refund if you cancel two or more days before your booking date, less a 5 percent handling fee. No refund if you cancel within 48 hours of the booked date, and none for no shows or unused rental time. The full wording is on the rental terms page.
Damage caused during the rental is chargeable. The walk around at handover exists precisely so both sides agree on the condition beforehand.
While you have the cart
During Your Rental
The four situations guests actually call us about once the cart is on the road.
Call the Belize number rather than emailing. A mechanic is reachable at any hour and will come out to the cart. If it cannot be fixed where it stands, we bring you a replacement.
Usually. Call before your return day and we extend it as long as that cart is not already promised to somebody else. If it is, we normally have another.
No. Our carts stay on Ambergris Caye. Take the boat as a foot passenger and rent something there if you need to.
Call us as soon as you notice. Carts are checked and cleaned between rentals, so there is a good chance whatever it is has already been found.

Getting to San Pedro in the First Place
Two routes reach Ambergris Caye. Flying from Belize City with Tropic Air or Maya Island Air takes about fifteen minutes and lands you at the airstrip in the middle of town. The water taxi takes an hour and a half from Belize City, or half an hour from Caye Caulker, and arrives at the terminal on the sea front.
Either way, we meet you. Send the flight number or the boat time with your booking and the cart is there when you step off. Guests who book the cart for the day after they arrive almost always wish they had taken it from the start.
