Mechanical
Engine, brakes, steering and tyres inspected, fluids topped, anything worn replaced before the cart goes back out.
San Pedro runs on golf carts. There is one main road, a bridge, a lot of sand streets, and almost nobody drives a car. Renting a cart here is not a holiday novelty, it is transport, and the company you rent from decides whether that part of your trip is invisible or a running problem.
We have been doing this on Ambergris Caye for over a decade. In that time the fleet has grown, the delivery service has spread across the whole island, and the thing that has not changed is the basic promise: a cart that starts, a fair published price, and a local number that a person answers.

24/7mechanic cover during rentals
Everything about how we run the business comes from the shape of Ambergris Caye. The island is long and thin, the interesting parts are spread from Secret Beach in the north to the quiet south end, and the distance between them is further than it looks on a map.
That is why the fleet is gas rather than electric, why the bridge pass is built into the rate instead of charged at the toll, and why we would rather meet you at your arrival point than have you find an office. None of it is complicated. It is just what actually works here.
The office sits inside Mark's Supermarket on Laguna Drive in the Boca Del Rio area, north of the bridge. Most guests never see it. The carts come to them instead.
The fleet in short
Two cart sizes and two ways to take them, which between them cover almost every group that lands on this island.
4 seater gas carts
Two rows, easy to park on the narrow streets, the cart most couples and small families take for the week.
6 seater gas carts
Three rows and the extra load space for coolers and snorkel gear. What groups and wedding parties book first.
Multi cart bookings
Three or four carts held on the same dates for one group, delivered together to one address.
Long stay rentals
Weekly and monthly arrangements for guests staying a while and for residents between repairs.
Salt air, sand and constant short trips are hard on a golf cart. A rental that is only cleaned between guests will eventually strand somebody on the road north, usually at the least convenient moment of their holiday.
Every cart comes back to us between rentals for an inspection rather than a rinse. Brakes, lights, tyres, steering, seats and the engine all get checked before it goes out again, and anything marginal gets dealt with then instead of on the roadside later.
During your rental a mechanic is reachable at any hour. If a cart cannot be sorted where it stands, a replacement comes to you. That is the whole point of running our own workshop rather than subcontracting the fleet.
Between every rental
Nobody advertises maintenance, so here is exactly what a cart goes through in the hours between one guest returning it and the next one collecting it.
Mechanical
Engine, brakes, steering and tyres inspected, fluids topped, anything worn replaced before the cart goes back out.
Electrical
Headlights, indicators and horn tested, because a fair share of island driving happens after dark on unlit road.
Comfort
Seats cleaned, roof and grab rails checked, sand cleared out of the places sand always finds its way into.
If a cart of ours leaves you standing at the side of the road, that is our problem to fix, not yours to negotiate. Mark's Cart Rentals, San Pedro
Three points on the island, though most rentals are handed over wherever you happen to arrive.
Inside Mark's Supermarket. This is where the fleet is based and where the paperwork gets done.
Beside the airstrip, for handovers and departure day collections on both airlines.
Handy if you are already in town and want to sort a rental or an extension in person.
The published rate is the rate. There is no delivery charge, no handover fee and no cleaning charge waiting at the end of the week.
Around the island
Photographs of our own fleet, taken on the roads you will be driving rather than in a studio.
About the company
The ones that come up most often once somebody has decided they want a cart and started wondering who to rent it from.
More than a decade. The company has been part of the island rental scene long enough that a good share of our bookings now come from guests returning for a second or third holiday.
Gas. Electric carts are quieter, but on an island this long the range matters more. A full tank takes you from the north end to the south end and back without hunting for a charger.
They are our own fleet, serviced by our own mechanics. That is why we can promise a replacement cart quickly when something goes wrong, rather than passing you to somebody else.
No. A valid driving licence from your home country is what is required. Carry it with you while you are driving, the same as you would at home.
The main office is inside Mark's Supermarket on Laguna Drive in Boca Del Rio. Most guests never need to visit it, because we deliver the cart to wherever they arrive.
Both. Residents rent from us regularly while their own cart is in the shop, and monthly rates are available for longer arrangements.
Tell us your dates and where you land, and the cart will be waiting when you arrive.
